Apprehended Violence Orders (AVO's)

There may be times when you feel that you need to be protected by court orders for your own safety. There are two types of orders:

1. An apprehended domestic violence order where the person in need of protection is related, living with or in an intimate relationship or has previously been in this situation with the person who is causing the person in need of protection fear from assault, harassment, threats, stalking or intimidation.

2. An apprehended personal violence order where the person in need of protection is not related and does not have a domestic relationship with the person who is causing the person in need of protection fear from assault, harassment, threats, stalking or intimidation.

The application for the orders for protection may be made by the Police on behalf of the person in need of protection or by that person.

A person may apply for an apprehended domestic violence order or an apprehended personal violence order if that person can show fear of physical violence, damage to property, harassment, intimidation or offensive behaviour or that person is being stalked.
